Banner Engineering Selects Optimal Electronics’ Optimized Dynamic Scheduling and Materials Management Solutions for Worldwide Implementation
AUSTIN, TX – March 15, 2011 – Optimal Electronics, a global provider of innovative software solutions for the control and optimization of the electronics assembly process, announced today that Banner Engineering has selected the company’s Optimized Dynamic Scheduling and Materials Management solutions for deployment across three assembly plants located in the U.S. and China. Banner Engineering selected the Optel solutions based on a comprehensive review of manufacturing execution systems (MES), followed by a pilot implementation that delivered the initial production improvements that Banner was seeking.
The combined capabilities of Optimal Electronics’ Optimized Dynamic Scheduling and Materials Management solutions will enable Banner to dramatically reduce changeovers, dramatically increase their SMT line utilization and maximize the company’s overall production capacity.
While Banner has previously achieved production gains through work order clustering, the new Optimized Dynamic Scheduling solution will allow the company to increase these gains by shifting to a more efficient automated clustering approach specifically designed to extract maximum equipment capacity. This innovative, dynamic scheduling approach utilizes custom genetic algorithms to automatically identify the best machine setup to minimize changeovers, speed component placement time, and increase machine capacity in real time without adding capital equipment. With this new scheduling capability, Banner will further increase efficiency by dynamically re-optimizing the production flow, as new work orders arrive and are introduced into the production stream.
Optimal Electronics is also providing its Materials Management solution for improving Banner’s material handling, machine setup and verification processes. These new capabilities will enable the company to automate processes to increase materials inventory accuracy, further reduce the number of setups and setup time, streamline parts verification, and decrease material and personnel costs.

"We evaluated all of the industry leading software solutions during our search for a new tool to manage our PCB assembly process. Optel was the only software capable of successfully modeling our production processes and practices (group setups, data management of multiple machines, etc.) utlizing legacy data and actually producing boards during our trials. Optimal Electronics continues to impress us with their abilities to deliver innovative new features and provide outstanding technical support."
