The Industry’s Second Largest Electronics Manufacturing Services Company Implements Optimal Electronics’ Component Traceability and Materials Management Solutions at its Poland Facility

AUSTIN, TX – April 18, 2011 – Optimal Electronics, a global provider of innovative software solutions for the control and optimization of the electronics assembly process, announced today that the industry’s second largest Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider has selected Optel Component Traceability and Materials Management solutions for deployment at the company’s Poland facility. The two Optel solutions will be implemented to automate and streamline key production processes, reduce headcount, and maximize efficiency across the entire Poland plant, including 21 production lines.

One of the major challenges faced by EMS providers is increasing market demand for component level traceability throughout each stage of the assembly process. Optimal Electronics’ EMS customer was seeking an automated, cost-effective approach for managing the myriad complexities involved in achieving accurate component traceability, at the most detailed level. More specifically, the company needed component level reference designator traceability, across all 21 production lines, to satisfy the requirements of two new customers.

With the implementation of the Optel Component Traceability solution, the EMS company will achieve full traceability by interfacing directly with SMT placement machines throughout the facility. This solution enables online setup verification to be fully automated, ensuring that the correct parts are loaded into the correct SMT machine slots. Additional capabilities provided by the solution include real-time component cycle counting and advanced parts outage warnings to reduce machine downtime and increase production output.

The Optel Materials Management solution will enable the EMS company to increase control of materials movement and status throughout the shopfloor in order to meet production demand, without excess inventory. The solution’s key capabilities include license plating, storage management, receiving and kitting, machine setup and verification, and ERP/MRP synchronization. Automated component usage counting will allow the company to eliminate the need for manual parts counting, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced personnel cost.

Our high mix PCB manufacturing environment benefits from Optel's powerful dynamic scheduling algorithms, coupled with its machine optimization and program generation capabilities.  Integrating Optel into our broader MES architecture helps us better balance multiple assembly lines, automatically program a variety of machines, and schedule setups instead of work orders. Schedule control and visibility is an important aspect of our strategy for cost-effective electronic assembly in North America, and Optel compliments the capabilities of our own plant-wide information applications, the FactoryTalk Production and Performance Suite.
