Flextronics Selects Optimal Electronics’ MES Solutions for Roll Out at its Austin-Based Assembly Plant
AUSTIN, TX – July 19, 2010 – Optimal Electronics, a global provider of innovative software solutions for the control and optimization of the electronics assembly process, announced today that the company will be providing its Optel Optimized Dynamic Scheduling and Material Management solutions for Flextronics’ assembly plant located in Austin, Texas.
Flextronics selected Optimal Electronics’ Optimized Dynamic Scheduling solution to increase production capacity and reduce production support headcount across all of its Austin assembly lines. Flextronics was experiencing an upper limit on production capacity and higher costs due to increasing demand for high mix, low volume production runs. The new dynamic scheduling capabilities will enable the company to increase capacity by automatically optimizing production runs, in real time, without adding capital equipment. In addition, with this new scheduling approach, Flextronics will dramatically reduce changeovers and improve efficiency by dynamically re-optimizing the production flow, as new work orders arrive and are introduced into the production stream.
Optimal Electronics is also providing its Material Management solution for improving Flextronics’ material handling, machine setup and verification processes. The new capabilities will enable the company to automate these processes to increase materials inventory accuracy, reduce the number of setups and setup time, streamline parts verification, and decrease material and personnel costs.
The Optel solutions will be customized to accommodate Flextronics' unique production processes and environment to deliver maximum value in the shortest amount of time. The company anticipates a strong ROI payback in less than six months.

Our high mix PCB manufacturing environment benefits from Optel's powerful dynamic scheduling algorithms, coupled with its machine optimization and program generation capabilities. Integrating Optel into our broader MES architecture helps us better balance multiple assembly lines, automatically program a variety of machines, and schedule setups instead of work orders. Schedule control and visibility is an important aspect of our strategy for cost-effective electronic assembly in North America, and Optel compliments the capabilities of our own plant-wide information applications, the FactoryTalk Production and Performance Suite.
