Magna Continues Corporate Roll Out of Optimal Electronics’ Optel Solution With a New Deployment at the Magna ECAR Division

AUSTIN, TEXAS – June 6, 2011 – Optimal Electronics, a global provider of innovative software solutions for the control and optimization of the electronics assembly process, announced today that Magna will continue its corporate roll out of Optel, the company’s flagship manufacturing execution system (MES), with a new Optel implementation at the Magna ECAR Division located in Holly, Michigan.

In today’s complex electronics assembly environment, manufacturers such as Magna have an ever-increasing need for greater management insight and control over all phases of the production process. Plant managers are being challenged to find new and better ways to automate manual processes, reduce overhead costs, optimize product quality, and achieve new efficiencies that ultimately lead to greater profitability.

Magna is addressing these production challenges at the ECAR Division by implementing the Optel Materials Management, Component Traceability, Process Traceability, and Quality Management solutions. These Optel solutions will provide a comprehensive, integrated approach across all assembly lines at the ECAR Division production facility.

Optel’s materials management and component traceability capabilities will enable Magna ECAR’s plant managers to gain real-time visibility of materials movement and status throughout the shop floor to effectively meet production demand without excess inventory and monitor production material flows to optimize production throughput. The process traceability and quality management capabilities provided by Optel will allow the company to improve internal operations management, monitor and measure production yield and quality, maintain process traceability at the circuit assembly level, and create customer conformance certifications and reporting.

Our high mix PCB manufacturing environment benefits from Optel's powerful dynamic scheduling algorithms, coupled with its machine optimization and program generation capabilities.  Integrating Optel into our broader MES architecture helps us better balance multiple assembly lines, automatically program a variety of machines, and schedule setups instead of work orders. Schedule control and visibility is an important aspect of our strategy for cost-effective electronic assembly in North America, and Optel compliments the capabilities of our own plant-wide information applications, the FactoryTalk Production and Performance Suite.
