Magna Electronics Selects Optimal Electronics’ Complete Optel MES Platform for Roll Out at its Holly Plant Location
AUSTIN, TX – May 19, 2010 – Optimal Electronics, a global provider of innovative software solutions for the control and optimization of the electronics assembly process, announced today that Magna Electronics will implement the company’s Optel Manufacturing Execution System (MES) at its assembly plant located in Holly, Michigan – with options for a corporate wide roll out.
Due to volatile market conditions and changing customer demand, a growing number of manufacturers are experiencing a major shift in order types and production requirements. The new emerging model is one that requires companies to produce a higher mix and lower volume in short, just-in-time scenarios. As a result, electronics manufacturers are facing massive changes in the way they must operate their plants, maintain margin, and generate a profit. Magna Electronics plans to address these new production requirements by implementing Optimal Electronics’ complete suite of Optel solutions including Material Management, Component Traceability, Process Traceability, Quality Management, and Optimized Dynamic Scheduling.
The Optel MES platform will provide Magna Electronics with a fully integrated, modular shopfloor control system that utilizes innovative dynamic production scheduling technology to optimize the assembly plant’s overall production environment. This state-of-the-art system will provide new capabilities for grouped setups to minimize changeovers, automated machine programming, materials verification, materials management, and detailed component level traceability – all integrated by a single database.
As part of the roll out, Optimal Electronics will customize the Optel implementation to accommodate the Holly Plant’s production environment and processes to deliver maximum ROI in the shortest amount of time. The company anticipates dramatic production capacity gains, lower equipment and headcount overhead, and a significant reduction in WIP materials cost.

Our high mix PCB manufacturing environment benefits from Optel's powerful dynamic scheduling algorithms, coupled with its machine optimization and program generation capabilities. Integrating Optel into our broader MES architecture helps us better balance multiple assembly lines, automatically program a variety of machines, and schedule setups instead of work orders. Schedule control and visibility is an important aspect of our strategy for cost-effective electronic assembly in North America, and Optel compliments the capabilities of our own plant-wide information applications, the FactoryTalk Production and Performance Suite.
